Loose T. - Anger is Love x EP Launch
POLR presents is back at our home away from home at The Harrison in King’s Cross for a night of very angry pop music to let loose to. Celebrating the release of Loose T.’s debut EP Anger is Love x. Support from Benji Tranter.
Loose T.
Loose T. is not German and she is not based in Taipei.
She doesn’t play guitar and has never won an award.
She screams so you can shout along.
She sings so you can laugh along.
Anger is Love x
The debut EP from punk-rock, pop icon Loose T.
"Can you feel it, the rage? And how, from the very first take - you're taking power - you
become addicted? Because when you raise your chin, it's magic, you raise your eyes, and in
the most concrete way, physically, that changes your point of view." - Christine Aventin.
The world is our playground. Let’s Play!
Benji Tranter
Loose T. will be supported by POLR’s very own pop super star Benji Tranter. But don’t let his catchy tunes fool you, he’s promised a night of suprises inspired by the ethos of “letting Loose”.

The All Night Chemist
“Daft and Irresistible” - Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6
Formed in 2021, The All Night Chemist (T.A.N.C) are the newest, and possibly only, wannabe dad-rock folk band on the London scene. Their debut album “Lunchtime Special”, packed with tasty treats, is out on the 30th June. Formed around the singer, songwriter and banjo player Jimmy Grayburn, the band draw on a range of sound and experience. Jimmy’s love of American and British folk music and storytelling clash brilliantly with 90s indie and 70s rock from guitarist Benji Tranter, roving bass and keys from Calum Perrin and drums from Ben Howarth.
Walking a delicate line between the domestic and the surreal, the tragic and the comic, the album is introspective but also filled with spirit. Think you’ve heard a story a million times before? This album will grab you by the ears and show you something new.
Their live show is both upbeat and intimate, it’ll make you laugh, cry and dance, maybe even all at the same time. Like dad-rock? Like folk music? Accepting/ambivalent about banjos? If you said yes to any of these then this is a show for you. If you’ve said a hard NO to all of these, then this show is even more for you!

Andy Skellam
“Something new and rather good” - Gideon Coe BBC 6 Music
Andy’s latest EP is a gently surreal journey. He creates intimate worlds, inviting the listener in with the warmth of his baritone voice and the often surprising turns of his fingerpicked acoustic guitar. It begins with 'Alice', a song about two people trying hard to cling to their youth and freedom and ends with 'Deep Blue Of Distance', a song of new parenthood and acceptance of the ephemeral nature of existence set against the backdrop of the Black Mountains.
'The soundtrack to resting on a broken tree in mulchy woods… [it] has provoked comparisons to Syd Barrett and Nick Drake – artists who similarly managed to butterfly-pin the strangeness of English life in music’ Dan Weltman, Hollowbody, Snails.
“A homespun sound and DIY ethic, something we much admire and are drawn to” - Folk Radio UK
Hannah Donelon

Benji Tranter
"Beautifully crafted" - Adam Walton, BBC Wales
After a hiatus of over five years, Welsh songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Benji Tranter returns with debut solo album Songs to Make You Happy, coming out 20th January on Pear O’ Legs Records.
With a lo-fi, home-recorded approach, Benji builds the album around stark acoustic guitars and his idiosyncratic voice, with embellishments from a menagerie of instruments, played by Benji and a collection of friends. What emerges is a charming, chaotic collection of vignettes; diary entries, polaroid snapshots, and notebook poems, with musical nods to influences like Elliott Smith, Conor Oberst and Nick Drake.
“Enchanting” - Fresh on the Net

Double Single Launch for The All Night Chemist and Benji Tranter with Philippa Zawe
Pear O’Legs Records is back with a double single launch at The Harrison in King’s Cross. Expect folk infused pop at its best with DIY costuming from Benji Tranter that would make Noel Fielding jealous and The All Night Chemist performing as their alter-ego cross dressing teen band Sir Vixen, falling somewhere between Queen’s “I Want to Break Free”, Mean Girls and Heathers (if they all formed a folk band). They’ll be supprted by the incredible folk and soul of Philippa Zawe.
Benji Tranter
After a recording hiatus of over five years, Welsh singer and songwriter Benji Tranter returns with his debut album Songs to Make You Happy, out in January 2022. With a lo-fi, DIY ethos, unembellished guitars and vocals deliver a charming, sometimes chaotic, collection of vignettes; diary entries, polaroid snapshots, throwaway poems and short stories. Benji is releasing his first single “Satellite” on the 25th November, a pop banger about friendship, love and togetherness, even if your only pal is a satellite way up in the sky.
The influence of US songwriters like Elliott Smith, Conor Oberst and Daniel Johnston are clear throughout, with occasional elements from Scott Walker, Nick Drake, and the care-free naivety of Jonathan Richman.
Growing up on the Welsh Marches, Benji has been song writing for many years now, penning two EPs in 2014 and 2016, more recently focussing his efforts toward his power-pop group Ski Lift who have been featured across R1, BBC6 and BBC Wales. He has also collaborated with Jovis Lane in pop outfit Show Boy, and is currently a member of psych-folk group The All Night Chemist.
The All Night Chemist
The All Night Chemist (aka TANC) are the newest wannabe dad-rock banjo-led folk space adventure four piece on the thriving London scene. Just a bit too earnest to be truly tongue and cheek, their songs celebrate and mock the mundane while stirring the soul.
They’ll be releasing their debut single “I’m In Love With My Phone” on the 25th November, an irreverent pop song about loneliness and the power technology can have in bringing us together, as well as dividing us.
Anything from cheesy pop bangers about sandwiches, to moody trad folk exploring the modern-day fur industry, their music has storytelling at its heart.
Pulling influences from traditional British and American folk music as well as inspiration from artists like Neil Young, The Flaming Lips, Talking Heads, They Might Be Giants, Big Thief, Wilco and Johnny Flynn, TANC create a show unlike anything else out there right now.
Philippa Zawe
Philippa Zawe is a Yorkshire based singer-songwriter. She is of Ugandan heritage and her songwriting is inspired by the rich stories that are told around her and that lie within her.
"Philippa has a fantastically controlled vocal style which conveys an enormous amount of feeling and meaning in every single word." (Ryan's Gig Guide, 2018)
Her songs are rooted in the genre of Folk with an infusion of Soul. Her inspirations vary from the likes of Terry Callier to Joan Armatrading, Nick Drake to Laura Marling. Her music has been described as “audio self-care at its finest” (Two Story Melody, 2018).
In September 2017 Philippa Zawe released her debut EP Road of Hope; a tale of loss, grief and hope found along the way. Shortly after that in May 2018 Zawe then released a full band EP titled Disadvantaged. 2020, a year of ups and downs, Philippa Zawe took us on an introspective journey full of hope and contradictions through her releases Dark Am I, Yet Lovely and Lay It All Down.
On 4 November Zawe released her most recent single Would You Lean. The single comes two years after her last release and will be followed by an EP release and accompanying tour.It is an evolution with a song that is reflective of the emotions around grief- bereavement, career, friendship and faith.

Leaning further into his indie side but not forgetting his folk roots, Josh is writing tracks that aren’t afraid to be pop bangers. POLR Presents: Jack Harris and JOW
We’re back for our monthly show at To The Moon in Old Market. Come see some of the most talented songwriters at one of Bristol’s most intimate shows. Plus we’ll have a floor spot from Roland George Harrad. Hosted by americana/folk duo Fritillaries.
Jack Harris
Jack Harris' songs take a compassionate look at things both common and uncommon, and see them differently. They are literate, curious, often in character, and always intriguing. His latest album, ‘The Wide Afternoon’, produced by UK folk giant Gerry Diver (Sam Lee, Lisa Knapp, Tom Robinson), was released in November 2016 to universal press acclaim.
Jack was a SXSW showcasing artist at 17, and the youngest ever winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Award in 2005 (previous winners include Gillian Welch, Devon Sproule and Anais Mitchell). He has been the recipient of the PRS ATOM award for new music creation, as well as an EFDSS creative bursary for songwriting.
‘Jack Harris is a priest of song who holds himself to a rigorous, ancient code of beauty most of us have forgotten exists.’ Anais Mitchell
JOW
JOW are a new acoustic duo of James Gow (cello) and Pete Judge (trumpet).
James is an outstanding young multi-instrumentalist who has worked for both Kneehigh and Wise Children theatre companies, and plays with the quartet Eleven Magpies. Pete is the trumpeter with BBC Jazz Award winners Get The Blessing and multi-instrumentalist with Three Cane Whale, amongst many other projects.
Expect a set of niche tunes that inhabit a land somewhere between the worlds of jazz, folk and classical chamber music, with intricate arrangements and plenty of room for atmosphere and improvisation. “Jow have the ability to find the eccentricities of life’s littlest moments and expand them into calm, complex and truly uplifting music”

Songwriters Circle at To The Moon
Hear three acclaimed young singer-songwriters in a unique, intimate environment.
Amy May Ellis
Amy May Ellis grew up in the middle of the North York Moors, it was there in a small venue called the Band Room that she played her first shows, guesting for artists such as Michael Chapman, Alessi’s Ark, Hiss Golden Messenger, Tiny Ruins, Ryley Walker and Willy Mason.
Since 2018, Ellis has released a series of 4 EPs, each exploring an element; ‘Weathered by Waves’, ‘We got Fire’,‘Where my Garden Lies’, and ‘When in the Wind’ which have all received support from BBC 6 Music, BBC introducing, and Rough Trade. These have fuelled headline tours around the UK and Ireland and landed Ellis a spot at Brighton’s Great Escape festival.
‘Amy May Ellis’ ability to take you through an array of emotions whilst leaving you hooked on every single word is a talent that only a few hold with clear integrity. When in the wind is a gorgeous body of work from an artist who’s ethereal qualities leave you feeling acknowledged’ - Paige Sims, Lock Magazine
Laura Reznek
A self-professed observist and avid people-watcher, Reznek’s music takes up issues of humans and humanity - spinning the ‘why’ of people and what we do through insightful lyrics, swelling chords, and poignant melodies. Although her classical training is apparent in her technique and arrangements, Reznek’s interest in perception is her guide in her upcoming project - a collaborative effort using the ‘found sounds’ of life that the rest of us take for granted. Coaxing music out of pot-and-pan percussion, running water, and city traffic is a feat only the few can achieve - and Reznek has mastered it. Spinning stories of family, friends, and crowds, Reznek’s neptunian orchestration lays bare the human condition in a way all of us can understand through our own lived experiences.
Fritillaries
Fritillaries are a Bristol-based folk and Americana duo, playing original songs on guitar, mandolin and banjo. Playing together since childhood, Hannah and Gabriel share a unique intimacy and ability to draw audiences into their world. Their debut album - about places and people missed and found in isolation, and things found growing when we dig down into spaces the light doesn’t reach - will be released on 15th July 2022 on Pear O’Legs Records.
Fritillaries have had a busy few years, including extensive UK touring, with headline slots at The Green Note (London) and Kitchen Garden Cafe (Birmingham). They’ve also toured Australia and opened for Blue Rose Code, Madison Violet, Sam Brookes, and others. Recent singles have featured on BBC 6 Music and been played extensively on BBC Introducing.
RnR Magazine described one 2021 headline show as ‘a delight.’ ‘Unearthing’, the recently-released first single from their upcoming debut album, has already been voted a ‘Fresh Fave’ by Fresh On The Net and described as ‘brilliant’ by BBC Introducing.
‘an outstanding single [which] bodes so well for their forthcoming album.’ Folk Radio UK

His new EP Strange Weather continues the feverishly eclectic stylings of his previous records whilst maintaining the songwriting prowess and wry honesty that have won him plaudits from radio, press, peers and fans alike. As is commonplace nowadays, T.E. Yates will be joined by old-time fiddler Joe Mansfield on violin and viola.
According to Alabaster dePlume - “T.E. Yates is a beautiful character. He’s not quite like the rest of us... He presents us with absolutely nothing but himself. He aspires to no grandeur. He offers, simply, his very soul.”

POLR Presents: David Grubb, Shayler & Brooke and Fritillaries
After an amazing March event, Pear O'Legs Records are thrilled to be hosting three fantastic acts at To The Moon on 7th April.
We've really outdone ourselves this month, with a couple of sensational contemporary acoustic acts from around the UK, hosted by our very own Fritillaries.
Eclectic folk with a dark identity. David Grubb brings together an array of seemingly disparate musical elements to create a uniquely diverse sound, challenging the audience’s perception of genre. David has been described as "A musician who doesn´t play by anybody else´s rules" (RnR Mag), and his melodies “highly melodious, appealingly catchy, even hypnotic at times” (The Living Tradition).
"Nothing really prepares you for David Grubb's new album, Nano, either musically or psychologically." Folk Radio UK
Combining heartfelt and intelligent storytelling with close harmonies, finger-picked guitar and clawhammer banjo, Shayler & Brooke make contemporary folk music that draws on traditions from both sides of the Atlantic.
